"A former director of national intelligence has warned the US Senate that if
an online war was fought today the US would lose.
Mike McConnell, director of national intelligence from 2007 to 2009 and a retired US Navy vice admiral, told a hearing Tuesday on cybersecurity held by the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation that the US would be certainly be facing an online attack and was unprepared to do so.
“If we were in a cyberwar today, the United States would lose. The federal
government will spend more each year on missile defense than it does on
Cybersecurity, despite the fact that we are attacked thousands of times each day
in cyberspace and we are vulnerable to attacks of strategic significance,” he
said."
